For many women, the breast area is the defining characteristic of their femininity and sexuality or an essential part of it. However, not all of them feel satisfied with the breasts they are genetically endowed with. What is more, women’s bodies sooner or later begin to change due to various factors of life, losing their familiar contours. This may lead to heightened self-consciousness and lower self-esteem: the sight in the mirror gives you a sinking feeling, you feel uncomfortable wearing a swimsuit…
A plastic surgery on the breasts may be the answer to your dreams, endowing you with the most important of outcomes and the defining characteristic of beauty – the sense of self-confidence. Breast augmentation with implants aims to increase the size of the breasts and enhance their symmetry by inserting an implant under the breast tissue or muscle under the breast. People seek breast augmentation when they feel their natural breast volume is too small or that their breasts lost their firmness and shape following weight loss, pregnancy, and breastfeeding.
Breast implants enhance the volume, firmness, and the rounded shape of your breasts. Whatever implants you may choose the main outcome to look for is that the final result matches well with your natural looks.
Our clinic offers a wide selection of breast implants of various volumes, weights, and shapes.
Breast augmentation with implants is the right procedure for you if you:
- Are aged 18 or older;
- Are not pregnant and not breastfeeding;
- Are not experiencing health disorders;
- Seek to enhance the shape of your breasts;
- Have realistic expectations.
How is the surgical procedure performed?
Initially, the surgeon selects the incision site based on your preferences and individual body characteristics. For positioning the implant, incisions can be created under the breast or around the areola. Depending on their shape, implants can also be positioned under the glandular tissue of the breast or below the large pectoral muscle. Surgeons usually use the Dual Plane technique, ‘hiding’ the implant partly behind the pectoralis muscle (the implant’s top part) and partly behind breast tissue (the implant’s bottom part). This ensures a gentle slope from the chest wall and a more natural look.
- Breast augmentation with implants is a simple surgical procedure, lasting 1 to 2 hours.
- The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia.
PROCEDURE STEPS
1. Consultation with plastic surgeon
During your first consultation with a plastic surgeon, they will discuss your expectations and advise you on the most appropriate implant size and shape. It is important to keep in mind that clients’ expectations sometimes exceed what is actually possible, which is why the surgeon will be inspecting your breasts to assess their and their nipples’ symmetry, shape, and size, also examining the folds below the breasts.
2. Preparing for surgery
For a successful surgery and best outcomes, it is important that you also take steps to prepare for the surgical procedure. You should quit smoking at least 4 weeks prior to the surgery; temporarily stop taking aspirin and certain other kinds of anti-inflammatory medication so as to reduce the risk of bleeding; and avoid eating and drinking for 6 hours before the surgery. A breast ultrasound examination may also be performed.
3. Surgical procedure
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia. The surgery takes 1 to 2
hours. The surgeon creates incisions in the least visible sites, i.e. in the natural creases under the breasts. The exact site of the incision depends on the choice of implant and your individual anatomy.
4. Outcome and recovery
The result is visible immediately, but patients may experience discomfort for some time. The nipples may feel numb and the breasts may become more sensitive to the touch. In the first month after the surgery, patients may notice swelling and experience discomfort, but the swollenness dissipates over time, with the incision wounds beginning to scar before fading away completely. It is important to keep in mind that post-operative swelling often makes the breast look larger, heavier, and tighter than expected. The new shape of the breast settles within several months.
You will be spending the first day after the surgery at our clinic, but even after returning home you will need to take an attentive care of yourself, following your doctor’s instructions.
After the surgery, you should:
- Wear a special bra for 22 to 23 hours a day for 6 weeks, which you will be given at the clinic;
- Avoid physical activity for around two months to prevent bleeding around the implant;
- Avoid raising your hands for several days. This will speed up the healing process, because you will prevent tension of the muscles and other tissues surrounding the implant. Moreover, you will prevent the risk of implant displacement;
- Avoid sleeping on your belly for some time;
- Protect the site of the incision against direct sunlight so that it fades better;
- Return to work no sooner than in 2 to 4 weeks after the surgery.
